It’s back-to-school season, and I want to make sure your children don't forget a few essentials for their orthodontic treatment:
Invisalign® Aligner or Retainer Case: If your child is undergoing Invisalign® treatment or has been instructed to wear retainers full-time, it’s crucial they bring their case to school. They should always store their aligners or retainers in the case during meals—never in a napkin, as it could easily be thrown away. Replacing these is costly, so remind them to use their case whenever the aligners or retainers are out of their mouth.
Toothbrush and Toothpaste: After meals, it’s important to brush away any food particles to prevent them from getting stuck in braces or under Invisalign® aligners where they can quickly cause cavities. Floss picks or orthodontic flossers can also be handy to keep in their backpack.
Extra Rubber Bands: If your child has been instructed to wear rubber bands full-time, that includes school hours. Make sure they have extra rubber bands with them and that they’re diligent about wearing them.
Orthodontic Wax: If braces are causing discomfort, they can dry the area with a tissue, warm a small piece of wax between their fingers, and apply it to the bothersome spot. This will help them stay comfortable during school until any issues can be addressed after hours.
That’s it! These items will help ensure your child’s orthodontic treatment stays on track while they focus on their studies. I hope this list is helpful, and I wish everyone a fantastic start to the school year. Happy back-to-school!
